We invite you to apply for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Magnetic Resonance & Materials for Energy Storage Lab (https://mrmes.mcmaster.ca/) in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at McMaster University, under the supervision of Prof. Gillian Goward.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform work in the field of metal-ion battery electrochemistry, contributing to the development of technologies relevant to advanced battery systems
  • Research areas include in-situ and in operando NMR/MRI of batteries
  • Measure and assess fundamental material chemistry properties for different battery components
  • Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, attend and present at scientific meetings
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of literature and develop new ideas, concepts, and/or research proposals
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor, collaborators, lab manager, facility manager, and students through research reports, presentations and other channels
  • Conduct research projects with group members and independently
  • Supervise, train and assist students with lab equipment use, software programs and data analysis protocols

Position requirements

Successful applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in electrochemistry or in a related field. The ideal candidate needs:

  • Knowledge in fundamental electrochemistry including metal ion batteries
  • Knowledge in air-sensitive sample handling and glove box usage
  • Experienced in electroanalytical measurements, with hands-on experience in cell assemblies (coil cells and pouch cells) and cell testing protocols
  • Experience with NMR/MRI is desired
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
